YEREVAN, December 29. /ARKA/. Armenia's membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) was instrumental in mitigating the decline in total exports this year, prime minister Hovik Abrahamyan told a Cabinet session today.
According to him, Armenia's deepening and balanced economic integration is one of the achievements of the country in 2015.
He recalled that exports in the first 10 months to former Soviet republics making the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) slashed by 25%, while overall exports fell only by 2%.
"An analysis clearly shows that Armenia's membership in the EEU gave it an opportunity to mitigate the decline in exports compared with other comparable countries in the region, such as Moldova and Georgia," said Abrahamyan.
He said also recalled that in December 2015 Armenia and the European Union launched negotiations on a new bilateral framework agreement with the parties discussing not only political, but also numerous economic issues aimed at increasing bilateral co-operation.
According to the National Statistical Service, Armenia's exports in January -November 2015 were 4.7% down from the year before standing at $1.345.2 billion. -0-
