YEREVAN, June 14./ARKA/. Advancing in Open government partnership initiative, Armenia may improve its indicators to comply with the requirements of the Millennium Challenges corporation, U.S. Ambassador John Heffern said Thursday at the first international conference, Open government partnership Armenia, in Yerevan.
The first round of Millennium Challenges Armenia project was completed at the end of September 2011. The total investments valued at nearly $177 million. The program’s goal was to reduce poverty in rural communities of Armenia through restoring irrigational infrastructures and allocating financial and consultation support to farmers, processing industry workers, and irrigation management structures.
The ambassador added once Armenia was a beneficiary of Millennium Challenges corporation, and now the issues are just being considered; Armenia will have to work hard within Open government partnership.
Open government partnership Armenia conference was organized by the government of Armenia and Center for Freedom for Speech NGO under the financial support of USAID.
Open government partnership was established in 2011 under the initiative of 8 countries ( USA, Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, Norway, Great Britain, the Philippines, and South Africa). Over 60 countries have already joined the initiative. Armenia joined the initiative in November 2011. -0-
