YEREVAN, December 27. /ARKA/. Armenia's economic growth this year will slightly exceed 7%, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on Thursday during a meeting with entrepreneurs, traditionally held ahead of New Year's Eve.
He said in terms of economic growth in 2019 Armenia will be in the list of the first 15 countries worldwide and the first across the region. 'By saying 'region' I mean not only the South Caucasus, but also the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). In the first quarter, in terns of economic growth, we were the first in Europe," he said.
"I am saying all this in order to express my gratitude to all of you for these recorded results. Governments usually boast of good performance, however, there is only one truth - these figures are created by the business community, and I want to really thank you," he said.
The Prime Minister expressed hope that in 2020 the figures will be even more encouraging and will raise the country's economy to new levels.
At the same time, he noted that the government, for its part, should ensure the rule of law, level playing field and equal treatment of all companies and enterprises by all government agencies.
"Unfortunately, I can’t say that we have 100% achieved it, but economic indicators show that certain steps have been taken in this direction. I want to reiterate that the political will of the Armenian government is to confidently move along this path,"- said Pashinyan.
According to the Central Bank, the Armenian economy is set to see 7-7.3% growth this year. Economy Minister Tigran Khachatryan expects economic growth of at least 7.5%. The 2019 budget-projected growth is 4.9%. -0-
