Regulator stops import of “live animals of unknown origin” to Armenia

YEREVAN, June 2. /ARKA/. Thanks to the vigilance of inspectors of the Gogavan-Privolnoye Border Control Department of the Food Safety Inspectorate, the import of live animals of unknown origin to Armenia was detected and suspended at the Gogavan border checkpoint, the regulator’s press service reported.
An inspection of the accompanying documents of the transported animals, in particular veterinary certificates, raised suspicions that they were fake. Rosselkhoznadzor confirmed that the structure did not provide any documents for this batch of calves (205 heads).
The agency indicated that the regulator’s direct function is to check the accompanying documents of all imported and exported animals: animals of unknown origin are subject to return or destruction.
Especially given the officially confirmed facts of the SAT2 foot-and-mouth disease outbreak in neighboring countries, the import of any batch of animals of unknown origin to Armenia will be suspended.
