SCR delegation participated in international conference on railway freight in Prague, March 12-15

The delegation of South Caucasus Railway headed by the CEO Victor Rebets took part in the 4th International Conference on the freight which was held from 12 to 15 March in Prague, Czech Republic.

YEREVAN, March 19. /ARKA/. The delegation of South Caucasus Railway headed by the CEO Victor Rebets took part in the 4th International Conference on the freight which was held from 12 to 15 March in Prague, Czech Republic.
The event is dedicated to the development of Euro-Asian rail freight business and was organized with the support of the International Union of Railways (UIC), the Organization for Cooperation of Railways, the European association of producers of railway equipment and the Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies.
The discussions during the conference gathered the head of UIC, the president of Russian Railways Vladimir Yakunin, CEO of UIC Jean-Pierre Lubin, the head of the Union of European Railway Industries Philippe Citroën, Executive Director of Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Libor Lohman.
The conference included the Eurasian railway forum where the role of the railways in the development of Euro-Asian transport system was discussed.
The CEO of CJSC SCR Victor Rebets presented the current opportunities and prospects at the conference, the benefits of transit rail industry in Armenia, aims and objectives of SCR as the national rail operator, the investment program of the company.
“Historically located on the intersection of East and West, North and South, one of the former states lying on the Silk Road, Armenia with its rail infrastructure could become a link to receive direct international traffic. It would let us avoid unnecessary load on the rail infrastructure of neighboring states bypassing kilometers and saving a lot of time and money,” he said.
Particularly, the head of the Company focused on construction of a new railway line Vanadzor-Fioletovo, Iran-Armenia railway, the international logistics center "Akhuryan" on the Armenian-Turkish border.
South Caucasus Railways, a 100-percent subsidiary of Russian Railways, runs Armenian Railway.
Armenian Railways was handed over to the South Caucasus Railways on February 13, 2008 for 30-year concession management with a right to prolong the management term for other 10 years. -0-
