SCR to tighten control over fare dodgers

The Russian-led South Caucasus Railways, operating Armenia’s rail roads, said today it will step up efforts to prevent fare dodgers from traveling by its train from March 19.

YEREVAN, March 13, /ARKA/. The Russian-led South Caucasus Railways, operating Armenia’s rail roads, said today it will step up efforts to prevent fare dodgers from traveling by its train from March 19. The press service of the company said the campaign will run through April 19.
The company will also tighten control over sale of tickets at stations and in trains and will also conduct a survey in order to assess the quality of services in trains and at stations and to find out whether the passengers are satisfied with trains schedule. The collected data will be used to design a plan of actions to improve the quality of services.
Under Armenia’s Code of Administrative Offences, the fine for fare dodgers ranges from 3% to 10% of the minimum wage.
The company said in an effort to improve the quality of passenger service it is upgrading its rolling stock, expanding the list of services and increasing s the speed of trains.
The South Caucasus Railways is run by Russian Railways. The concessional agreement was concluded in 2008 for 30 years, with a right of extension for another 20 years after the first 20 years of operation. -0-
