YEREVAN, September 7. / ARKA /. The year-on-year economic growth in Armenia in the first half accelerated to 5.1 percent from 2.5 percent in the first quarter, according to the latest numbers, released by the National Statistical Service (NSS). It said also the second quarter GDP was equal to 1.113.7 trillion drams or about $2.3 billion.

A week ago Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan said economic growth reached 4.4 percent in the first half of 2015 contrary to forecasts made by some leading international lending institutions. The growth rate resulted from an almost 15 percent surge in agricultural production and a 5 percent rise in industrial output in the first half.

The government projection of GDP growth for 2015 is 4.1%; the inflation projection is  4% (± 1.5%).

Earlier this year the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund revised downwards their macroeconomic outlook for Armenia to 0.8 percent and zero growth respectively, citing spillover effects of the deepening recession in Russia. -0-
