YEREVAN, November 15. /ARKA/. Armenian-Iranian trade has been rising for several years, Armenian Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan said Monday, adding that the trade turnover from $350 million in 2021 is likely to surge to $1 billion in 2023.

"Economic relations between the two countries are important from the security point of view," he said in an interview with Armenia’s Public Television.

On Tuesday Grigoryan had a phone call with his Iranian opposite number Ali-Akbar Ahmadian to discuss economic and trade relations between the two countries.

Grigoryan singled out an Armenian- Iranian agreement signed in late October on the repair of Agarak-Vardanidzor road section (about 21 km) and construction of a road from Vardanidzor to tunnel exit (about 11 km) as part of the 4th tranche of a project to build North-South transport corridor. The project is implemented by a joint Iranian venture Abad Rahan Pars Iranian International Group and Tounel Sad Ariana.

"That is why look at economic relations as a factor contributing to security," Grigoryan explained.

According to the National Statistical Committee of Armenia, trade turnover between Armenia and Iran in the first 9 months of this year amounted to $507 million, increasing by 2.2% compared to January-September 2022. -0-
