Two brandy names of Yerevan Brandy Factory's ARARAT series have won high prizes at the 16th San Francisco International Wine and Spirits Competition (SFIWSC), the press office of the Yerevan Brandy Factory reported on Thursday.

YEREVAN, April 1. /ARKA/. Two brandy names of Yerevan Brandy Factory's ARARAT series have won high prizes at the 16th San Francisco International Wine and Spirits Competition (SFIWSC), the press office of the Yerevan Brandy Factory reported on Thursday.    

«The ten-year Akhtamar won the gold medal and the five-year 5 Stars won the silver medal,» the press release reports.

The first SFIWSC took place in 2000. It is one of the most respected and influential spirits competitions in the world.

This year 1,850 items from all over the world were competing for honorable titles, and 39 jurors tasted and examined them from March 17 to 20.

«The contest organizers say ARARAT is the first Armenian brand representing Armenia in the competition's years-long record,» the press office of the Yerevan Brandy Factory says in the press release.

Akhtamar brandy, which is being produced by the factory from 1967, has won many gold and silver medals since then.

Yerevan Brandy Factory produces legendary Armenian brandy ARARAT by using traditional technology, which was founded yet in 1887 Nerses Tairyants and his cousin Vasily Tairov.  

Only high-quality endemic sorts of Armenian grapes and a pure spring water are used for producing the brandy.

Precious brandy alcohols are aged in secular Caucasian oak made in the factory's own coopery.

Yerevan Brandy Company is the exclusive producer of ARARAT Brandies is the direct successor of Armenian brandy-making traditions, established in1887.
