YEREVAN, August 19. /ARKA/. Lowcoster Eurowings owned by Lufthansa has decided to cease flights to Russia from November ‘for economic reasons’, TASS reports referring to Kommersant.
A spokesman from the company told the media resource that flights to this destination have no come up to the company’s expectations.
Now Eurowings is considering alternative ways to transport those passengers who are already booked for these flights.
In October 2015, Air Berlin made a similar decision ‘as part of optimization of non-profitable destinations’. At that very time Eurowings started operating regular flights from Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport to Berlin six times a week.
Kommersant says that foreign air companies from Russia’s market came amid the dwindling passenger traffic on the international lines – passenger traffic between Russia and foreign countries (excluding CIS countries) shrank 18.6% in 2015 to 32.3 million people, Kommersant reports referring to the official reports.
The experts surveyed by the media resource confirmed that demand for flights to Germany has dropped yet two years ago.
However, as said a representative of one of air tickets aggregators, Berlin, Munich and Düsseldorf are still popular destinations, since they are business activity centers. --0---
