The damage natural disasters inflict to Armenia every year is estimated at $33 million, UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia Dafina Gercheva said on Friday at a conference focused on resistance to natural disasters in Armenia.
YEREVAN, April 22. /ARKA/. The damage natural disasters inflict to Armenia every year is estimated at $33 million, UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia Dafina Gercheva said on Friday at a conference focused on resistance to natural disasters in Armenia.

She singled out earthquakes and landslides as most likely disasters in the country.

Gercheva pointed out necessity to develop a clear program of measures to be taken to lessen damage. She said the UNO is ready to support Armenia in its efforts.

In her words, more than 370 natural disasters across the world took 300,000 lives in 2010.

She said the number of natural disasters is expected to grow by 55% by 2015, and the world should be prepared for this challenge. -0-
