Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan convened today an emergency meeting to look into new measures to contain wildfires, including in the state-owned Khosrov Forest Reserve.

YEREVAN, August 15. /ARKA/. Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan convened today an emergency meeting to look into new measures to contain wildfires, including in the state-owned Khosrov Forest Reserve. According to the presidential press service, the meeting discussed the progress in extinguishing the wildfire in the Khosrov Forest Reserve, as well as a set of other  issues regarding proper control of the fire hazard in the forest zones throughout the country due to high temperatures and the absence of precipitation. 

The meeting was attended by the prosecutor general, emergency minister David Tonoyan, agriculture and nature protection ministers Ignaty Arakelyan and Artsvik Minasyan The president and the officials discussed also the type of preventive measures, the causes of wildfires, as well as the assessment of the damage done to nature and agriculture, and the possibilities of its restoration.The ministers reported that all the necessary measures have been taken and currently there are enough opportunities to solve the problems that have arisen on the territory of the reserve.

Serzh Sargsyan was said to have expressed gratitude to all the people and structures that fought with wildfire. The president also expressed his special gratitude to his colleagues from Russia who, promptly responding to the request of the Armenian ministry of emergencies, have sent a water–dropping aircraft, which is currently actively involved in the firefighting. Following the meeting, the president instructed the officials to continue keeping the situation under strict control and periodically report on the progress of fire fighting.-0-
