Armenian prosecutors open criminal case against YSU accountants

Armenian prosecutors have initiated a criminal case against two accountants of Yerevan State University (YSU) on charges of embezzlement. The Office of Prosecutor General said in a statement today that two senior accountants misused their powers and in violation of the university rector’s order, accepted cash money from students as tuition fees in 2010-2012, but the amounts worth tens of millions of drams, missed the university cashier’s office and were stolen.

YEREVAN, June 25. / ARKA /. Armenian prosecutors have initiated a criminal case against two accountants of Yerevan State University (YSU) on charges of embezzlement. The Office of Prosecutor General said in a statement today that two senior accountants misused their powers and in violation of the university rector’s order, accepted cash money from students as tuition fees in 2010-2012, but the amounts worth tens of millions of drams, missed the university cashier’s office and were stolen.
The criminal case was opened under article 179 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (embezzlement or misappropriation of another's property by abuse of powers). The investigation into the criminal case was assigned to a police department dealing with grave crimes.
On January 1, 2013 the university rector banned cash payments, including payment of salaries, stipends and tuition fees. ($ 1 - 411.64 drams). -0-
