One person was killed and 57 others were injured by an explosion at Surmalu trading center in Yerevan today, Armenia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations spokesman Hayk Voskanyan told Novosti-Armenia news agency.

YEREVAN, August 14. /ARKA/. One person was killed and 57 others, including more than a dozen minors, were injured by an explosion at Surmalu trading center in Yerevan today, Armenia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations spokesman Hayk Voskanyan told Novosti-Armenia news agency.

The Ministry of Health reported that the condition of 36 of them is moderate. None of the injured is in an extremely serious condition. Twenty out of 57 injured persons received first aid and were discharged.

A 5-year-old child who was treated in the intensive care unit of the Surb Astvatsamayr medical center was transferred to the ward, according to the ministry.

The explosion took place on the territory of Surmalu at 13:23, then the fire broke out. Twenty fire brigades were working at the site, he said.

Eyewitnesses report that the explosion occurred in the warehouse of fireworks. -0-
