YEREVAN, December 18. /ARKA/. The Gyumri family murder trial began today in the territory of Russia's military base in Armenia's city of Gyumri, Novosti-Armenia reports.

On January 12, a family of seven, including a six-month baby who died later in a hospital, was murdered in Gyumri.

Suspect Valery Permyakov, a serviceman at the Russian military base, was caught by Russian border troops as he attempted to cross Armenia-Turkey border. He confessed his guilt.

On August 12, Russian military court sentenced Permyakov to 10 years in prison for desertion with a gun, and his homicide charges are separated into an isolated case and now he will be tried by Armenian court for murders.

The judicial department said earlier that the trial is open and admission is free.

As Novosti-Armenia correspondent reports, the courtroom is full. The trial is being broadcast live. --0---
