Firefighters demolishing walls of Spayka building to get direct access to fire

The firemen battling the blaze in the building of a major freight forwarding company “Spayka” in Yerevan have started pulling down the front wall of the burning building to ensure direct access to the fire, responsible person from the Rescue Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations colonel Hovhannes Yemishyan told reporters, Novosti-Armenia says.

YEREVAN, May 16. /ARKA/. The firemen battling the blaze in the building of a major freight forwarding company “Spayka” in Yerevan have started pulling down the front wall of the burning building to ensure direct access to the fire, responsible person from the Rescue Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations colonel Hovhannes Yemishyan told reporters, Novosti-Armenia says.

Fire fighting operations are under way at full capacity, around the entire perimeter of the building, Yemishyan said. Twenty six units of special equipment are used, municipal water carriers ensure uninterrupted supply of water, he said.

The colonel also said blasts will be set off to make windows open in the burning building.

“The cause of the fire has not been established yet, we will have the answer to the question when the investigation is over”, Yemishyan said.
The fireman who suffered an ankle injury wears a plaster cast now, the colonel said.

According to the ministry of emergencies, the fire spreads to an area of 4,500 square meters to 3 floors. The blaze is said to be of the third degree of complexity.

“Spayka” limited company founded in 2001 is a major Armenian freight forwarding company and is engaged in international motor freight transportation throughout the CIS countries and Europe. The company is also manufacturing packaging, boxes and palettes from polyesterol in particular. -0-
