Hostage-taking in kindergarten in Armenia – child released, nobody killed

The three-year-old child taken hostage at Manushak Kindergarten of Armenia’s town of Armavir has been released without loss of lives, Novosti-Armenia reports.

YEREVAN, October 31. /ARKA/. The three-year-old child taken hostage at Manushak Kindergarten of Armenia’s town of Armavir has been released without loss of lives, Novosti-Armenia reports.
On Monday at 16:25, the police received an alarming call – a man with a knife took hostage kids and their nursing teachers at the kindergarten.
Several hours later the hostage-taker released all hostages but a three-year-old boy.
The boy was released thanks to the law-enforcement crew that stormed the kindergarten.
Armenian media resources immediately reported information about the attacker. In particular, it was reported that the attacker was the husband of one of the kindergarten nursing teachers and that he wanted to push into a corner his wife, who intended to get divorced from him.
Martun Simonyan, chief supervisory officer at the police department’s unit in charge of public relations, confirmed the information saying that the man’s demand was private in nature. The man is already identified, he said, but his name is not revealed yet.
Immediately after the rescue operation, some media outlets reported about death of the offender, but Ashot Agaronyan, the police department spokesman, officially denied the reports on his Facebook page saying that the man tried to injure himself, but was stopped by the police and that he is in a hospital now.
Investigators are still plenty to do – they have to qualify the offense and to clear motives of the wrongdoer’s conduct. But the Armenia’s society is obsessed by the fact that a man with a knife can rush into a kindergarten putting lives of dozens children and adults at risk. --0----
