Permyakov sentenced to ten years in prison

The fifth garrison military court that is under the Couth Caucasus Military Court sentenced Valery Permyakov to ten years in high-security prison.

YEREVAN, August 12. /ARKA/. The fifth garrison military court that is under the Couth Caucasus Military Court sentenced Valery Permyakov to ten years in high-security prison.
Permyakov was indicted for deserting from the army with a gun, for weapon and armament stealing and selling.
For murdering a family in Grumri, Permyakov is being tried by Armenian judicial institutions.
The first court session in the Gyumri family murder case took place in Gyumri.
The testimony given by Permyakov in the course of preliminary inquiry was read out at the court session, since the accused refused to speak though he pled guilty.
According to the testimony, he stayed no more than 15 minutes in the home of his victims trying to find money to cross the Armenian-Turkish border and then return to Russia.
In his words, he took the automatic weapon to defend himself from dogs and to sell it later.
Permyakov said he penetrated into a random house where people were asleep, but they woke up. This frightened him and he shot at them.
He said it has been his own decision to leave the military base.
Major General Vladimir Ustinov, the chief of the 102nd Russian military base where Permyakov stayed for military service, who represented the victim party at the trial, said that before the incident Permyakov was healthy, he maintained friendly relations with fellow servicemen and didn't communicate with local residents.
It has become known from the results of medical examination that Permyakov was of sound mind at the moment of the crime, and he was neither drunk nor drugged.
On January 12, a family of six was killed in Giumry, near the place where the Russian military base N 102 is deployed. The only survivor six-month Serezha Avetisyan died later in hospital. Valery Permyakov, a serviceman at the Russian military base, was arrested while attempting to cross Armenia-Turkey border.
On July 18, al the files of the criminal case were handed over to Armenian investigators.
The Armenian Investigation Committee was periodically released some facts and details of the crime.
For example, it was reported that the bullets found on the scene were fired from Permyakov's automatic weapon and that his DNA samples were taken from things.
The investigation has been carried out jointly by Russian and Armenian investigators. Yet on January 21, Aghvan Hovsepyan and Alexander Bastrikin, heads of Armenian and Russian investigation committees, signed an agreement to set up a group for more effective investigation. The group is made up of ten representatives of the two countries' investigative committees.
Armenia's law enforcement said there were no obstacles in the course of the investigation. ---0----
