Armenian Police said they have detained a police officer on suspicion of robbing and raping a woman. The police said a woman and her daughter reported that an armed man broke into their house, robbed them and then took them by their car to the nearby cemetery and left them there.

The police said a woman and her daughter reported that an armed man broke into their house, robbed them and then took them by their car to the nearby cemetery and left them there.
Later, the woman told the Police that on September 22 night the masked and armed man broke the window of her apartment to get in. He handcuffed the woman and her daughter, stole gold items worth 186,000 drams (about $460), a $100 banknote and a Sony TV set. Then under the gunpoint , he pushed both into the trunk of the woman’s "Mercedes" car, took them to a deserted area near the village of Dzoraghbyur and there he raped the woman at knifepoint.
Then he pulled her daughter out of the car and fled in the car," the police said.
The detained is police sergeant Edgar Varagyan, 27.
"A physical examination revealed scratches on Varagyan’s body. The police searched also his apartment to find a lantern and a toy gun, which were recognized by the woman and her daughter,” the police said.
"Each such incident is shocking and regrettable, but they all must be exposed. The Police is guided by the principle that all are equal before the law, and those who not only betray the call of duty , but also cease to become humans must be ruthlessly banished from the police and the society," the Police said in a statement posted on its official website. -0-
