Resident of Armenian village helps detain Turkish citizen for violation of state border

A resident of an Armenian village located close to the border with Turkey helped Russian border guards, who guard Armenia’s border with Turkey and Iran, detain a Turkish citizen for violation of the state border.
YEREVAN, May 5. / ARKA /. A resident of an Armenian village located close to the border with Turkey helped Russian border guards, who guard Armenia’s border with Turkey and Iran, detain a Turkish citizen for violation of the state border.
The press service of the Russian border guards in Armenia said this past weekend a resident of the village of Baghramyan, called the border guards to report an illegal movement of cattle from Turkey across the border into Armenia.
A few minutes later a group of border guards discovered 12 heads of cattle grazing in the territory of Armenia. In the nearby bushes they discovered a citizen of Turkey, who appeared to be a 16 year-old resident of the Turkish village of Ramazankert.
According to the Turkish citizen, he illegally crossed the border to take his cattle that accidentally wandered into Armenia, back to Turkey.
In accordance with international treaties and Armenian laws, the juvenile offender of the state border regime and the 12 heads of cattle were handed to Turkish authorities.
Protection of Armenia’s 330 km long border with Turkey and 45 km long border with Iran is implemented by Russian border guards. Russian border guards are considered by Armenian leadership as an important component of the national security.
Russian border guards are deployed in Armenia according to a 1992 bilateral agreement. They are stationed in Armenian Gyumri, Armavir, Artashat and Meghri. Their maintenance costs (4,500 border guards) are covered by the governments of Armenia and Russia.-0-
