SCR sets up commission to probe bridge collapse on Vardenis-Shorzha section

The Russian-run South Caucasus Railways (SCR), operating Armenia’s railroads, said today it has set up a commission to make an internal investigation into an accidnet last week that killed three workers and injured two others.

YEREVAN, November 19. / ARKA /. The Russian-run South Caucasus Railways (SCR), operating Armenia’s railroads, said today it has set up a commission to make an internal investigation into an accidnet last week that killed three workers and injured two others.
The accident was reported on November 15 on a section of the railroad from Vardenis in Geghrakunik province to Shorzha where a bridge under repair collapsed claiming three lives.
The commission is headed by deputy CEO of the company, Marat Khakov. It also includes experts of the SCR and represnettaives form Irma-M company, contracted to repair the bridge.
The findings of the internal investigation will be used to develop a list of measures to address the main causes of injuries, prevent new accidents. After the accident the SCR has tightened control over enforcement of safety standard, the company said in a press release.
South Caucasus Railways, a 100-percent subsidiary of Russian Railways, runs Armenian Railway. Armenian Railways was handed over to the South Caucasus Railways on February 13, 2008 for 30-year concession management with a right to prolong the management term for other 10 years. -0-
