YEREVAN, March 3. /ARKA/. Armenian National Assembly's Committee on European Integration has postponed the discussion of the draft law on starting the process of the country's accession to the EU in the second reading, head of the committee Arman Yeghoyan said, adding that the postponement was due to technical reasons.

“The bill will not be discussed at the parliamentary session beginning on Tuesday. Discussions on the draft law will continue; there are no problems in terms of its content. The reason is technical,” Egoyan said at a press briefing on Monday.

According to him, the government, in particular, proposed to add article numbers, set the term of entry into force and remove the preamble.

“Just technically, the time has expired for putting it on the agenda of the upcoming four-day session. We have no political differences in this issue,” Yeghoyan said.

On January 9, 2025, the  government approved a civil initiative for Armenia's accession to the EU, proposed by the "Platform of Democratic Forces," which includes four extra-parliamentary parties and several civil movements). In order for the project to be submitted to parliament for consideration, the  platform activists collected more than 52,000 signatures from Armenian citizens.

The bill was approved in the first reading by the parliament on  February 12. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that Armenia can only become a member of the EU if the people approve this initiative in a referendum. He emphasized the need to discuss and develop a joint "road map" with the EU.
