YEREVAN, June 20. /ARKA/. Armenia-NATO relations are quite extensive, Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian said at the joint briefing with Special Representative of NATO’s Secretary General Robert Simmons.
Direction of Armenia-NATO cooperation is clearly given by Armenia-NATO Individual Partnership Action Plan that has been implemented for already two years, Oskanian said.
According to Oskanian, the annual evaluation of the program implementation received positive response recently. “The word and spirit of the document is applied in every aspect in practice and the results can be already seen, as we recorded positive shifts and we are confident that our cooperation will continue and expand,” Oskanian said.
Armenian Foreign Minister pointed out “fairly interesting discussions” he had with Special Representative of NATO Secretary General on bilateral relations, regional problems and security issues. All the information provided by Simmons was quite interesting to Armenia, Minister said.
In discussing Nagorno-Karabakh peace process Oskanian reported on the negotiations of Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents in Sankt-Petersburg.
The sides also discussed the problem of Kosovo and NATO’s stance on it, as well as Alliance’s approaches to possible allocation of American anti-missile defense systems in Europe and involvement of NATO peacemakers in various countries with Armenia taking part in it.
“As you know, recently Armenia stated its intention to expand its peacemakers’ contingent in Kosovo as it is important for the development of the overall our peacemaking system, Oskanian said.
“I think this visit will give an extra impetus and will serve as a continuation of our cooperation with NATO,” Oskanian said.
