YEREVAN, December 16. /ARKA/. Negotiations on simplification of visa regime between Armenia and European Union may be completed by the end of the next year, Gunnar Wiegand, European Commission Director for Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia, said Wednesday at a news conference in Yerevan.
The third stage of negotiations on association between Armenia and European Union was held in Yerevan on Wednesday.
Armenian negotiators are headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Karine Ghazinyan, and European delegation is headed by Wiegand.
The European Commission director, however, pointed out difference between simplification and liberalization of visa regime. He said the latter would take much more time.
Wiegand said that simplification implies reduction of visa delivery fee from current €60 to €35.
Citizens will be classified into several groups.
In accordance with this classification, not only diplomats, but also travelers and employees of those organizations having contacts with European Union will get their visas in a simplified regime.
Wiegand said that visa regime simplification and readmission would lay an important groundwork for further liberalization of visa regime.-0-
