State institutions of Armenia are to go through long way of formation, Head of the parliament group of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Karen Karapetian told journalists.
YEREVAN, September 7. /ARKA/. State institutions of Armenia are to go through long way of formation, Head of the parliament group of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Karen Karapetian told journalists.
Commenting on the terrorist act in the Armenian Parliament in 1999, he pointed out that such cases occur even in greater and more developed countries, which then find themselves as lacking mechanisms of prevention. According to Karapetian, the terrorist act in the World Trade Center in New-York on September 11 2001 could give an example.
“Being a state with serious financial resources and long-year experience of formation, still USA found itself vulnerable in facing the terrorism,” he said.
Armenia, being a country with fewer resources and statehood basis, should approach the issue from the theoretical point of view and should try to learn lessons from the two cases of terrorism, Karapetian said.
On October 27 1999, a group of terrorists rushed into the Parliament of Armenia and shot down the leaders and members of the parliament and the government. The victims of the terrorists were Armenian Prime-Minister Vazgen Sargsian, Speaker of the Parliament Karen Demirchian, Vice-Speakers Yury Bakhshian and Ruben Miroyan, Minister for Urgent Issues, MPs Armenak Armenakian, Genrix Abrahamian, and Michael Kotanian.
