Transferring Karabakh issue to UN format possible, but not probable
YEREVAN, December 25. /ARKA/. Transferring the Karabakh issue into the UN format is possible, but not probable, political scientist Levon Melik-Shakhnazarian told journalists.
"I think no such development will occur but we should be ready to work within UN and expand the audience and to probable work with other countries,’’ he said.
Melik-Shakhnazarian said that the organization Georgia-Ukraine-Azerbaijan-Moldova (GUAM) seriously work over re-orienting the Karabakh issue from OSCE Minsk Group to another format.
‘’But representatives of many UN member-countries such as Malaysia and Djibouti do not have even an idea where Armenia, Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan geographically are,’’ he said.
Тhe expert also said that three pillars seriously involved in the Karabakh peace process – Russia, European Union and the USA – will make every effort to keep the Karabakh problem within OSCE Minsk Group to maintain the control over the process.
Negotiations on peaceful settlement of the conflict within OSCE Minsk Group have been held since 1992.
In October 2007 an initiative of GUAM organization on settlement of ‘’frozen conflicts’’ was brought up at the 62nd session of UN General Assembly. –0--
