24.06.2008, 18:48
Armenian officials and politicians will not be escorted by the traffic police, the Chief of Armenian Police Alik Sargsian said.
YEREVAN, June 24. /ARKA/. Armenian officials and politicians will not be escorted by the traffic police, the Chief of Armenian Police Alik Sargsian said.

Escorting creates problems and annoys the population, he told journalists.

From now on the traffic police will be escorting only the top officials of the country, he said.
The Chief of the Police also said that the activities of the traffic police will be improved on the whole and traffic rule-breakers will be punished irrespective of their position and social status. Cases of violation of the traffic rules “by famous people” have already been recorded, Sargsian said.

He also pointed out that the traffic police will pay particular attention to drivers of cars with prestigious so called “gold numbers”.

Problems connected with public transport stops and parking at sidewalks are also to be solved soon, the Chief of Armenian Police said. –0--
