A hotline set up to give legal aid to voters in Armenia

A telephone hotline, 080-080-804, has been opened in Armenia to provide legal support to voters under the “Elections 2013” initiative.

YEREVAN, February 18. /ARKA/. A telephone hotline, 080-080-804, has been opened in Armenia to provide legal support to voters under the “Elections 2013” initiative.
The hotline has been initiated by the Civil Society Institute and the American Bar Association (ABA/ROLLI).
The aim of the initiative is to protect voting rights of citizens through provision of legal assistance.
“On February 18, on the Vote Day, based on the hotline calls received, 30 legal emergency cars, with one journalist, one observer and a lawyer, will arrive at the scene to provide the required legal advise and to report on possible violations”, according to the report.
“Elections 2013” has no political orientation and aims at helping every citizen involved in the electoral process, whose voting right has been infringed upon.
Seven contenders are running for the country’s president today: incumbent president Serzh Sargsyan, former prime minister and leader of Freedom party Hrant Bagratyan, former foreign minister and leader of Heritage party Raffi Hovhannisyan, well-known Soviet dissident and leader of National Self-Determination party Paruyr Hayrikyan, ex foreign minister of Karabakh Arman Melikyan, political scientist and head of Radio Hay Andrias Ghukasyan and specialist in epic studies Vardan Sedrakyan.-0-
