Abrahamyan appointed premier due to his ability to form a wider coalition – expert
YEREVAN, April 14. /ARKA/. The vice-speaker of the parliament is appointed as premier mainly because he is able to form a wider coalition, head of political studies department at Caucasus Institute Sergey Minasyan said.

That is why the president chose him, although he is somehow unpopular in the society, Minasyan said in his interview to Novosti-Armenia.

The intrigue of the new appointment is will the new cabinet still include two parties only (RPA and Orinats Yerkir) or there will be a new coalition possibly with Prosperous Armenia and Dashnaktsutiun, the expert said.

Minasyan also said Abrahamyan’s candidacy is quite acceptable, first of all, to Prosperous Armenia as its leader tycoon Gagik Tsarukyan is a relative to Abrahamyan (Tsarukyan’s daughter is married to Abrahamyan’s son).

According to Armenia’s constitution, the cabinet is formed within twenty days after the premier is appointed.

The tycoon-led Prosperous Armenia party was in the ruling coalition in 2007-2012. Dashnaktsutiun, one of the oldest Armenian political parties, left the coalition in 2009, in protest against the signing of Armenia-Turkey protocols.

The previous coalition government formed after the parliamentary elections of 2012 composed of the RPA and Orinats Yerkir party led by the secretary of the National Security Council Arthur Baghdasaryan.  –0--
