After signing peace agreement with Azerbaijan, EU observers' functions in Armenia will be revised – Mirzoyan

YEREVAN, March 14. /ARKA/. After the signing of the peace agreement with Azerbaijan, the role of EU observers in Armenia will be reviewed, stated Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.
"The mandate of the EU observers clearly outlines the goal of supporting the peace process along the border and in the border regions. We have had numerous opportunities to emphasize how important we consider the activities of the EU civilian mission, and we can confirm that there have been no significant large-scale escalations since the start of their work," the minister said at a briefing.
He noted that Armenia is grateful to the EU observers and that they will continue their mission until the agreement with Azerbaijan is signed.
"Once the agreement is signed, ratified, and comes into effect, it will signify the establishment of peace. Their function was to facilitate the peace process. Therefore, we must discuss with our EU colleagues what adjustments need to be made to the mandate and what other roles they may take on," the minister explained.
On March 13, the Armenian Foreign Ministry confirmed the agreement on the draft treaty titled "On the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan" and the completion of negotiations regarding its approval. The ministry stated that the document is ready for signing, and Yerevan is prepared to begin consultations with Baku on the timing and location of the signing.
