Ahmadinejad invites his Armenian counterpart Sargsyan to NAM summit in Teheran

The President of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has invited his Armenian counterpart Serzh Sargsyan to participate at the summit of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Tehran, Armenia’s president press service reports.
YEREVAN, June 4. /ARKA/. The President of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has invited his Armenian counterpart Serzh Sargsyan to participate at the summit of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Tehran, Armenia’s president press service reports.
The summit is scheduled for August. Armenia is an observer in Non-Aligned Movement.
The invitation was hand over to Sargsyan on Saturday by special envoy of Ahmadinejad, Energy Minister of Iran Majid Namdz.
“Welcoming Namdz’s visit to Armenia, Yerevan attaches great importance to the mutual cooperation with Iran that is a reliable neighbor and ally of Armenia,” the press service informs.
Armenian President and Iranian Energy Minister highly commended Armenian-Iranian intergovernmental commission’s performance the next meeting of which is scheduled for the next few days in Yerevan.
The sides underscored the importance of implementing some key projects related to energy which will ensure advance in trade turnover between the two states.
The Energy Minister of Iran also said that the construction works of Meghri HPP (at the border of the two states) and the third line of high-voltage power lines are due to start soon.
Armenia and Iran are implementing a number of joint energy projects. The two countries also plan to construct two most powerful hydro stations in the South Caucasus on the border river Arax: in Armenia the hydro stations will be built in Meghri, and in Iran- in Karachilar. Each of the stations will produce 793 million kW / h of electricity. The estimated capacity of Meghri HPP will be 130 MW.
The estimated cost of five-year construction of Meghri HPP is 323 million dollars invested by Iranian investment company.
The capacity of the third power transmission line Iran-Armenia will be 400 Kv. The estimated cost of the project is 100-105 million euros, that will be invested by Iranian Sanir company. –0--
