Ambassador says there is no reason for Armenian-Russian relations to worsen

YEREVAN, March 4. /ARKA/. There is no reason to suggest that the essence, the nature and the level of Armenian-Russian relations may change for the worse, Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin said in an interview with Armenia’s Public Television.

“On the contrary, the aspirations, the intentions of both sides, and even the new challenges facing the world and the region now, indicate that our allied relations are in demand more than ever,” he said.

Recalling that the relations between the two countries are of a strategic and allied nature, the ambassador stressed that both sides have the political will not only to preserve but also to strengthen and further develop them.

“A lot of facts testify to this, including the active development of economic ties,” he said.

“We are military and political allies - this is also a very important area of cooperation, and it is certainly developing. We work very well together with Armenia in our integration structures - in the EEU, the CSTO, where Armenia is currently chairing. We remember that very indicative example of the peacekeeping, stabilizing functions of the CSTO in Kazakhstan during the events at the beginning of the year,” he added.

According to official statistics, Russia was Armenia's largest foreign trade partner in 2021 with bilateral trade growing 20% to $2.6 billion. -0-
