YEREVAN, August 9. /ARKA/. The opposition Armenian Revolutionary Federation/Dashnaktsutyun part has decided against participating in the elections to the Yerevan Council of Elders.

"The elections to the Council of Elders, scheduled for September 17 are being held under conditions of extremely difficult geopolitical choices and threats to Armenia, the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) and our people. Against this background, the Armenian Revolutionary Federation/ Dashnaktsutyun's approach from the very beginning was that the opposition should compete in the election to the Yerevan Council of Elders with a single list," the party's Supreme Body said in a statement.

The ARF/Dashnaktsutyun said that since it was not possible to run in the previous elections with a single list, it does not consider it expedient to nominate its own proportional list for the elections. It added that it will make an additional statement after the nomination of the candidates and the publication of their programs.

The ruling Civil Contract party's candidate for the vacancy is Vice Mayor Tigran Avinyan. According to various sources, other potential candidates for the post of mayor are former human rights defender Arman Tatoyan, David Khazhakyan from Bright Armenia party, Mane Tandilyan from the Country for Life party and Artak Zeynakian from the Hanrapetutyun (Republic) party --0—
