YEREVAN, October 14. /ARКА/. Armenia rejects Azerbaijan's precondition for constitutional amendments, stated Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.
"Armenia has never raised and will never raise the issue of constitutional amendments with any third country. Azerbaijan continues to frame this matter as a prerequisite for the signing of a peace treaty, which we categorically reject. The issue of amending the Armenian Constitution as a mutually agreed matter is not on the bilateral agenda," he remarked during a joint press conference with OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen in Yerevan on Tuesday.
Mirzoyan further noted that the amendment of the Armenian Constitution or the establishment of a new Basic Law is solely a domestic political concern that should be addressed by the Armenian populace.
"I find it astonishing that this matter persists on the agenda despite numerous and consistent assurances to the contrary," Mirzoyan expressed.
Azerbaijan is insisting on amendments to the Armenian Constitution and the disbandment of the OSCE Minsk Group as prerequisites for finalizing the peace treaty (a decision regarding the OSCE Minsk Group has already been made).
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has consistently highlighted that the Armenian Constitution does not include territorial claims against Azerbaijan or any other nation, whereas the Azerbaijani Constitution does include territorial claims against Armenia.-0-
