YEREVAN, June 8. /ARKA/. Armenia will continue its course toward rapprochement with the European Union and its participation in the EAEU, stated Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

"We will develop our relations with Russia and other EAEU countries. We will, of course, promote the strengthening of ties within the EAEU," he said at a press conference following the parliamentary elections.

Responding to a question about whether any Western politicians had called him, Pashinyan said he had spoken informally with French President Emmanuel Macron and the Georgian Prime Minister 10 minutes earlier.

On May 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Armenia should decide as soon as possible whether to join the EU or the EAEU "for an intelligent divorce." On June 1, Pashinyan stated that Armenia's choice between the EAEU and the EU is currently theoretical, and putting it to a referendum is unfounded. He explained that until Armenia has officially applied to the European Union for membership or is very close to candidate status for EU membership, holding any referendum is illogical.
