Armenia and Lithuania to set up intergovernmental commission to boost relations

YEREVAN, November 28. / ARKA /. Armenian economy minister Vahram Avanesyan and his Lithuanian counterpart Evaldas Gustass discussed in Vilnius establishment of a bilateral intergovernmental commission to boost trade and other ties.
The two men were said to have agreed that the embassies of Armenia and Lithuania will begin as soon as possible development of a procedure to ensure an appropriate legal framework for the establishment of the commission.
The Armenian minister is in the Lithuanian capital to participate in a two-day business forum of EU’s Eastern Partnership program.
The sides discussed also a number of economic issues, including ways to increase bilateral trade, investments, tourism and the possibility of direct air links between the two countries. They also discussed the latest developments in the relations between Armenia and the European Union, prompted, in particular, by the decision of Armenia to join the Customs Union.
In this regard, it was stressed that in the new situation the parties should strive to develop relationships and ensure the continuation of the reforms.
Armenia was supposed to initial an association agreement with EU at an Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius November 28-29, however, on September 3 Armenian president announced after talks in Moscow with Russian president Putin that Armenia would join the Customs Union. -0-
