Armenia is considering all toolkits of international law and diplomatic practice to protect its territorial integrity- foreign ministry

YEREVAN, November 17, /ARKA/. The Republic of Armenia is in direct and multilevel contact with its Russian ally, the press secretary of the Armenian Foreign Ministry Vahan Hunanyan said today.
‘As you know, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia and the President of the Russian Federation held a phone conversation (on November 16 evening), during which Nikol Pashinyan briefed Vladimir Putin on the situation.
In this context, the leaders of the two countries discussed possible joint steps, the implementation of which is enshrined in a bilateral legal framework and is in line with allied relations․
Regarding the appeal to the UN Security Council - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia has already informed the President of the UN Security Council on the situation.
I would like to note that for the protection of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia we consider all the toolkits of international law and diplomatic practice,’ Hunanyan said..
On 16 November, Armenia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Mher Margaryan delivered a statement at the United Nations Security Council open debate on “Peace and security through preventive diplomacy”.
In his statement Mher Margaryan drew the attention of the Security Council to the armed attacks by Azerbaijan against the territorial integrity of Armenia in recent days in breach of the UN Charter, the international law and the provisions of the Trilateral Statement of 9 November 2020. He stressed that the aggressive actions of Azerbaijan are detrimental to the efforts of the international community to de-escalate the situation and are severely undermining the prospects of peace in the region.
The Permanent Representative of Armenia underlined the need for urgent and effective steps by the international actors aimed at prevention of the further escalation and ensuring unconditional and complete withdrawal of the Azerbaijani armed forces from the territory of Armenia.
The UN Secretary-General, the President of the General Assembly, the President of the ECOSOC, and the President of the International Court of Justice made presentations during the meeting presided by Mexico. -0-
