Armenia needs to intensify its foreign policy, expert says
YEREVAN, June 11. /ARKA/. A prominent Armenian expert in Turkish affairs has urged today the country’s government to intensify its foreign policy in order to make the country’s presence in the region and beyond it more visible.

Speaking at a news conference, Ruben Safrastyan, the head of the Institute of Oriental Studies, an affiliation of the National Academy of Sciences, said based on the "velvet" revolution and the essence of Armenians’ political culture, the country’s foreign policy should be built on the principle of harmony.

According to him, the foreign policy should be built taking into account historical and political features, in particular, the existence of Armenian communities across the Middle East.

"If we are able to theoretically formulate our foreign policy and present it to the international community, then the place of Armenia, as a country striving for harmony, will only become stronger," Safrastyan said, adding that he did not mean the policy of complementarity.

"Complementarity is a foreign policy of small and weak countries, which are trying to find an ally. In other words, complementarity is the loss of national and state identity," he said. -0-
