Armenia's human rights defender files resignation letter

YEREVAN, January 23. /ARKA/. Armenia's Human Rights Defender Kristine Grigoryan said today she has submitted a formal resignation letter to the National Assembly saying in a Facebook post she wanted to resign because of taking up another job.
Under the Armenian law, the powers of the Human Rights Defender are considered terminated if a repeated resignation letter is sent to parliament within a week after the first one.
Grigoryan said she would provide information about hew new job in due time, and until then she would refrain from making any comments on this topic.
Grigoryan, nominated for the post by the ruling Civil Contract party of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in 2021, was elected Human Rights Defender on January 24, 2022 following a vote in the National Assembly.
Kristine Grigoryan was born in 1981 in the town of Sevan. In 2016-2017 she worked as a national human rights expert for the Council of Europe. In July 2019, she was appointed Deputy Minister of Justice. -0-
