Armenia takes up 4-month chairpersonship in OSCE Forum for Security Cooperation

YEREVAN, March 25. /ARKA/. The United States passed March 24 the chairpersonship in the OSCE Forum for Security Co-operation (FSC)  to Armenia for the next 4 months (April-August 2021), the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry reported.

It said when speaking at the FSC meeting on March 23, the head of the Armenian mission to the OSCE, Ambassador Armen Papikyan thanked the United States for its efforts and cooperation.

The Armenian diplomat noted that ensuring peace and security in the OSCE area of responsibility requires joint efforts, constructive participation and dialogue in order to ensure the strict implementation of OSCE commitments.

Regarding the priorities of Armenia's chairpersonship in the OSCE FSC, the Ambassador stressed the importance of arms control, cooperation with other regional security organizations, creation of security confidence-building measures, and implementation of OSCE commitments in the military-political area.

In this context, Ambassador Papikyan noted that violations of the OSCE commitments lead to a violation of international security systems, a decrease in predictability and transparency in the military sphere, which, in turn, directly jeopardizes human rights, in particular the right to life.

The Ambassador said that in order to counter such challenges, it is necessary to fully and effectively use the response potential of the OSCE structures.

The OSCE (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe) is the world's largest regional security organization. Its members are 57 countries in Europe, Central Asia and North America. The organization is aimed at preventing the emergence of conflicts in the region, resolving crisis situations and eliminating the consequences of conflicts.

Armenia will formally take up the OSCE FSC Chairpersonship on 12 April 2021. - 0--
