Armenian National Assembly discusses the beginning of Armenia's EU accession process

YEREVAN, February 11. /ARKA/. Armenia’s National Assembly has started hearings on a proposal to start the process of Armenia's accession to the EU as part of an initiative that has garnered more than 60,000 votes of citizens.
The representative of the initiative, former MP Artak Zeynalyan, who presented the proposal, noted that the goal is to ensure that the government’s actions in the future are within the framework of the European integration process. The MPs have 5 hours to discuss the issue.
On January 9, 2025 the Armenian government approved a civic initiative on Armenia's accession to the EU, proposed by the Platform of Democratic Forces.
On January 24, the Parliamentary Committee on European Integration gave a positive conclusion to the draft law.
PM Nikol Pashinyan stated that Armenia can become a member of the EU only if the people approve this initiative in a referendum. He pointed to the need to discuss and develop a joint roadmap with the EU. -0-
