YEREVAN, September 7. /ARKA/. Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan had a telephone conversation on Monday with the United Kingdom Parliamentary Deputy Secretary of State, Minister for European Neighborhood and America, Wendy Morton, the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry said.

It quoted Mirzoyan as saying that Armenia was ready to develop cooperation with the United Kingdom in areas of mutual interest.

Mirzoyan and Morton were said to have discussed a wide range of issues on regional security and stability.

Mirzoyan stressed that a lasting and stable peace in the region can be achieved through a comprehensive solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship on the basis of well-known principles and elements. In turn, Morton noted that the United Kingdom supports the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group.

The Armenian Foreign Minister stressed the need for the soonest return of Armenian prisoners of war and civilians held in Azerbaijan. Mirzoyan presented to his colleague the situation resulting from the provocative actions of Azerbaijan, in particular, the incursion of the Azerbaijani armed forces into the sovereign territory of Armenia. He stressed that such actions undermine the efforts aimed at achieving regional security and stability.

In the context of joint efforts of states in the fight against climate change, the interlocutors stressed the importance of holding the 26th UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26) summit, which will be held in November this year in the city of Glasgow, United Kingdom. -0-
