YEREVAN, March 1. /ARKA/. Armenia's foreign minister Edward Nalbandian and the visiting EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini discussed today in Yerevan the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process with Mogherini reaffirming the European Union's support for the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group aimed at the peaceful settlement of the protracted conflict.

The parties agreed that destructive steps, fraught with aggravation of the situation in the conflict zone and bellicose rhetoric are causing  damage to the peace process contributing thus to the preservation of the status quo.

Nalbandian was quoted by the Armenian foreign ministry press office as saying that Armenia will continue its efforts for exclusively peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict. He also said that Mogherini's first visit to Yerevan will positively affect the development and deepening of relations between Armenia and the EU.

In turn Mogherini stressed that the strengthening of relations between Yerevan and Brussels will benefit not only the two sides, but the whole region. The sides were said also to have spoken about the situation in the Middle East, particularly in Syria, as well as about the consolidation of efforts of the international community in the fight against terrorism.

In this context, Nalbandian noted that Armenia has given shelter to about 20 thousand Syrian refugees, being the third country in Europe in terms of per capita refugees from Syria. -0-
