Armenian, Latvian foreign ministers discuss relations between their countries

Armenian and Latvian foreign ministers Edward Nalbandyan and Edgars Rinkevics discussed relations between the two countries and regional security as met Friday in Yerevan.

YEREVAN, December 12. /ARKA/. Armenian and Latvian foreign ministers Edward Nalbandyan and Edgars Rinkevics discussed relations between the two countries and regional security as met Friday in Yerevan.
“We can place it on record with pleasure that our relations are dynamically developing now – there are many mutual visits, our presidents and foreign affairs ministers exchange visits and the head of the Latvian Parliament is expected to come to Armenia in 2015,” Nalbandyan said.
In his words, he discussed with his Latvian counterpart also OSCE Minsk Group’s efforts to settle Karabakh conflict. Things in Ukraine and in the Middle East were also among the issues discussed at the meeting.
“We had a chance to exchange opinions about various regional and international matters,” the Armenian foreign minister said. “We also discussed EU-Armenia relations, especially taking into account that Latvia will assume EU chairmanship the next year. Preparations for eastern Partnership countries’ summit to be held in May in Latvia were discussed as well.”
Nalbandyan said he will meet with Rinkevics also at the Armenia-EU Council’s session scheduled for January 2015.
The Latvian foreign minister, on his side, said the two countries have established good relations and maintain them.
We should pay greater attention to economic issues and should be more active,” he said. “It is necessary to discuss in details what should be done for propelling our economic relations.”
Speaking about Syria and Iraq, Rinkevics said the Latvian foreign ministry shares Armenian colleagues’ concern over turmoil there and added that Latvia will deal with these problems during its EU chairmanship. Rinkevics arrived in Yerevan today at Nalbandyan’s invitation.
He is also set to meet with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and Armenian National Assembly Speaker Galust Sahakyan in Yerevan. ---0----
