YEREVAN, February 16. /ARKA/. The administration of the National Assembly of Armenia is looking through records of the 2014 fall sessions to see the then attendance, Parliament Speaker Galust Sahakyan was quoted by Novosti-Armenia as saying.
«This scrutiny doesn't target particular persons,» he said. «MPs are now submitting their absence justification to the parliament administration. We will discuss this information upon completion of this process and release results to public.»
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, who is also the head of the Republican Party of Armenia, speaking Thursday at a session of his party, said that Gagik Tsarukyan, leader of Prosperous Armenia, will be stripped of his National Security Council membership. He said Tsarukyan, a as a political actor, is evil for the country.
In his speech, President Sargsyan also said that Tsarukyan was present at only four sessions out of 145 of the National Assembly in 2013-2014 and that MPs from the Republican Party of Armenia will take necessary steps «to get out of this absurd situation».
Asked what papers have been submitted by Tsarukyan and whether he had missed sessions because of his entrepreneurial activity or not, Sahakyan said that business activity couldn't be considered as reasonable excuse of absence from parliamentary sessions.
«I don't know what papers have been submitted by Tsarukyan – they are at the parliament administration's disposal now,» he said.
One day later, Gagik Tsarukyan, speaking at a meeting of senior members of his party, responded to the president's accusations by saying that Sargsyan's attack against him was prompted by Tsarukyan's refusal to be involved in the process of reproduction of the current authorities' power by constitutional reform that would turn Armenia into a parliamentary republic.
In particular, Tsarukyan said that he was offered to become the country’s president after these constitutional changes but he declined this offer causing Sargsyan's anger. --0-----
