YEREVAN, February 11. /ARKA/. Two opposition alliances in the Armenian parliament - Hayastan (Armenia) and Pativ Unem (I have Honor) - said today they will not be involved in a parliamentary ad hoc commission that will investigate the circumstances of the 44-day war in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone in the autumn of 2020 .

The creation of the ad hoc commission to investigate the circumstances of the war is the initiative of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s Civil Contract party that controls 71 seats in the 107-member National Assembly.

"The government that has publicly stated that it is the "number one culprit" and the "number one responsible" for the consequences of the disastrous war, is creating a commission to investigate its circumstances. The parliamentary committee on defense and security issues as part of which the ad hoc commission will act, is absolutely deprived of any possibility of being objective in any way," the two opposition factions said in a joint statement.

According to the both factions, the ad hoc commission will be engaged in staging the "innocence" of the authorities.

"Taking into account these and a number of other circumstances, the opposition factions Hayastan and Pativ Unem have decided not to participate in the work of the commission established by the authorities. At the same time, we inform that the identification of those responsible for the results of the 44-day catastrophic war remains one of our main priorities," the statement says.

On September 27, 2020, Azerbaijani armed forces, backed by Turkey and foreign mercenaries and terrorists, attacked Nagorno-Karabakh along the entire front line using rocket and artillery weapons, heavy armored vehicles, military aircraft and prohibited types of weapons such as cluster bombs and  phosphorus weapons.

After 44 days of the war, Azerbaijan retook the territories it had lost in the first war in the 1990s. In the 44 days of fighting an estimated 7,000 soldiers and civilians were killed on both sides and tens of thousands wounded.

On November 9, the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a statement on the cessation of all hostilities. A Russian peacekeeping contingent was deployed along the contact line in Karabakh and along the Lachin corridor. -0
