YEREVAN, December 8. /ARKA/. Civil disobedience actions are taking place in the center of Yerevan after an ultimatum issued by the opposition to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to resign expired today at 12 pm.
The opposition called on citizens to stage peaceful actions of disobedience until 17:00. The protesters are blocking traffic at the intersections of Abovyan and Moskovyan, Amiryan and Mashtots Avenue, near Sakharov Square.
Former prime minister Vazgen Manukyan, nominated by the opposition as a single candidate for the post of transitional prime minister, said earlier if elected prime minister, he would stop his party activities, and after a while would hold early parliamentary elections.
He said also the interim government would need to engage in negotiations to discuss all unclear aspects of the trilateral statement, signed by the leaders of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan on November 9 to stop the war in Nagorno-Karabakh.
According to Manukyan, the interim government would need also to raise the combat capability of the armed forces and establish special relations with Russia.
Also, according to him, the interim government would need to search for missing persons, return home prisoners of wars, and help the families of killed servicemen and refugees from Artsakh.
From September 27 to November 9 2020 Azerbaijani armed forces, backed by Turkey and foreign mercenaries and terrorists, attacked Nagorno-Karabakh along the entire front line, using rocket and artillery weapons, heavy armored vehicles, military aircraft and prohibited types of weapons such as cluster bombs and phosphorus weapons.
On November 9, the leaders of the Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a statement on the cessation of all hostilities in Artsakh. According to the document, the parties stopped at where they were at that time. The town of Shushi, the districts of Aghdam, Kelbajar and Lachin are handed over to Azerbaijan, with the exception of a 5-kilometer corridor connecting Karabakh with Armenia.
A 2000-member Russian peacekeeping contingent has been deployed along the contact line in Karabakh and along the Lachin corridor. Internally displaced persons and refugees are returning to Karabakh and adjacent regions, prisoners of war, hostages and other detained persons and bodies of the dead are being exchanged.--0-
