YEREVAN, November 11, / ARKA /. The Armenian parliament has passed today a bill calling for a drastic increase in the salaries of high-level state officials, including the president.

The government–designed bill applies to the head of state, government ministers, senior law-enforcement and army officials as well as parliament deputies and diplomats.

In particular, it would triple the monthly salaries of the president, prime minister and parliament speaker. The president, for example, would get 1.3 million drams ($3,260) a month.

The basic wage of senior officials according to 2014 draft budget is 66,000 drams (about $163). The parliament speaker and prime minister will get 66,000 drams multiplied by 18, ministers will get 66,000 drams multiplied by 12, parliament members’ salaries will be 66,000 drams multiplied by 10. The basic amount of salary for top and senior officials will be determined each year. -0-
