Armenian parliament speaker Galust Sahakyan will visit the Russian capital in early July, the visiting Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov said today at a joint press conference with his Armenian opposite number Edward Nalbandian.

YEREVAN, June 23. / ARKA /. Armenian parliament speaker Galust Sahakyan will visit the Russian capital in early July, the visiting Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov said today at a joint press conference with his Armenian opposite number Edward Nalbandian.

"We are confident that the strengthening and expansion of inter-parliamentary relations will contribute to further development of our overall relations," Lavrov said.

He described Russia’s relations with Armenia as ‘allied and strategic partnership, based on age-old traditions of friendship and mutual assistance.”

"For us it is an important factor to ensure favorable conditions for the development of our countries and for the maintenance of regional stability. Trade turnover between our countries is growing 10% per year. Russian investments in the Armenian economy have surpassed $3 billion and all major Russian companies are present in Armenia,’ Lavrov said.

He stressed that the multifaceted bilateral ties are boosted by regular dialogue at the highest level.
"We have adjusted today our further steps both bilaterally and in the framework of the CIS and the Collective Security Treaty Organization," said Lavrov.

According to the official numbers, trade turnover between Russia and Armenia increased by more than 10% in 2013 to over $1.4 billion. Russia is also the major investor in the Armenian economy having invested so far $3.2 billion. There are also approximately 1,300 enterprises with Russian capital operating in Armenia. -0-
