YEREVAN, December 14. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received on Monday the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs Stephane Visconti of France and Andrew Schofer of the United States of America) as well as the charge d'affaires of the Russian Embassy in Armenia Alexei Sinegubov and the personal representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Andrzej Kasprzyk, the government press office reported.

Pashinyan was said to have emphasized the visit of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs to the region after the war that was unleashed by Azerbaijan against Nagorno-Karabakh.

Pashinyan deemed it necessary to resume negotiations within the framework of the co-chairmanship of the Minsk Group with the aim of a comprehensive settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He emphasized the priority of clarifying the status of Artsakh, taking into account the importance of the right of the Artsakh people to exercise their right to self-determination, de-occupation of the territories seized by Azerbaijan, creating conditions for the safe return of Artsakh Armenians to their homes and protection of Armenian  religious and cultural heritage in Nagorno-Karabakh.

The prime minister condemned the violation by Azerbaijan of the obligations assumed in accordance with the trilateral statement, which was reflected in the provocative actions on the line of contact between Artsakh and Azerbaijan on December 11 and 12.

On December 11 Azerbaijani troops violating the November 9 statement signed by the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia to stop hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh, launched an assault on Karabakh Armenian positions in and around two remote villages of Hin Tagher and Khtsaberd in Karabakh’s southern Hadrut district, which was captured by Azerbaijani forces.

According to Armenia’s Defense Ministry, six Karabakh Armenian soldiers were wounded in the renewed fighting.  Russian peacekeepers were said to rush to the area late on Saturday to try to stop the hostilities.

In response to the breach, Armenian president Armenian Sarkissian asked ministries of defense and foreign affairs to immediately present the situation in Artsakh to the public, as well as the actions taken by the Armenian side to effectively protect the mentioned settlements and maintain the ceasefire.

Sarkissian also asked the National Assembly to urgently convene a special sitting to examine the causes of the situation in the Hadrut region and the ways of its solution.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told an emergency meting of the Security Council that the attack took place because the Russian peacekeepers had not yet had time to deploy in that area. The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Sunday that the territory of the village of Hin Tagher came under the control of Russian peacekeepers. -0-
